The Path to Digital Leadership

“How We Achieved Top 3 Rankings for 1,200+ Keywords for Alta”

Project Starting Point and Market Challenges

Achieving market leadership means more than just generating high traffic. For Alta, one of the largest electronics retailers in Georgia, it meant being seen as the first choice whenever customers were looking for technology products.

It became clear almost from the get-go that standard optimization methods would not be enough to achieve an objective this hefty. A deeper analysis was needed to understand why the website’s existing authority was not fully translating into organic search performance.

Alta’s goal itself was straightforward: achieve and maintain clear dominance across the relevant e-commerce search landscape. As we mentioned, however, there were several complex challenges in the way.

  • Formidable goal: The client wished for the website to rank in the Top 3 across a large number of strategic keywords.
  • Major challenge: As Alpaca started working on the project, the website was undergoing a complete restructuring, with the client trying to implement a new system.

Strategy and Technical Solutions

As Alta and Alpaca began collaborating while the new website was still in development, our team had the opportunity to work on the site architecture from the ground up and account for all key technical SEO requirements. The team redeveloped the approach to the site structure, including which parts to prioritize and how to manage large-scale redirects, which was essential for preserving the authority and search rankings built up by the old platform.

  • Navigation structure was improved according to the established UI/UX best practices.
  • Categorization and optimization: Unique descriptions were written for most category pages, and the internal linking structure was improved.
  • Duplicate page cleanup: A system was put in place to prevent duplicate pages from appearing in Google at the same time.
  • Redirects: Tens of thousands of URLs were redirected through automation.
  • Crawl budget optimization: Search engine bots access to pages not meant to appear in search results was restricted.
  • Improved page speed and Core Web Vitals resulted in pages loading noticeably faster for visitors.
  • Backlink campaign: A backlink campaign was developed to further strengthen Alta’s digital authority. During this period, we secured publishing across a wide range of authoritative media platforms, including Forbes.ge, Tabula.ge, Rustavi2.ge, Tvpirveli.ge, Kvirispalitra.ge, Kvira.ge, Bp.ge, Homeis.ge, and others. On the other hand, thousands of spammy backlinks were removed from the website’s backlink profile.
  • The keyword strategy focused on high-purchase-intent search terms. This brought Alta closer to people who were actively looking to buy electronics.

Measurable Results and Market Positioning

Fixing the technical issues, strengthening the website’s authority, and shifting the search strategy toward buyers demonstrating active purchase intent resulted in:

  1. 📈 +75% growth in organic traffic for non-branded keywords: Compared in the scope of year to year, organic traffic generated by keywords that did not containing any variation of the Alta brand name increased by 75%.
  2. 🏆 Search engine domination: Over 1,200 keywords tracked in Ahrefs rank within the Top 3 positions.
  3. 🥇 #1 rankings across major categories: Alta maintains top positions for multiple highly competitive tech categories, among them: mobile phones, notebooks, TVs, laptops, monitors, refrigerators, washing machines, and more.
  4. 🔗 Increased authority: Domain Rating (DR) increased to 44.

The changes implemented during the project significantly shifted the competitive landscape for the electronics market. Notably, another major player previously led the market in organic traffic and rankings but the optimization work done by Alpaca allowed Alta to take over that position and establish itself as a leading actor in the sector.
